Sunday

Well, my family leaves today.  They packed their belongings and we got together for our breakfast.  Since they didn't have to leave for the airport until 2, we moved their bags to my room and K and I headed for one last dip in the pool.  R opted for a nap (if he could get one), so I left him in Milo's hands and off we went.

We had a Mojito during the afternoon happy hour (12-2).  The happy hour is two for one, but what they do is give you a huge one instead of two separate ones.  The mojito was almost as good as the one at the Italian Restaurant La Vita e Bella the other night. The time moves too fast and we had to go back to the room.

We head up to the front desk and they settle their bill. And then off they drive into the sunset.  What do I do with myself now?  I head back down to the pool and end up talking with a lovely couple formerly from Colorado and now Virginia (grandkids) and we have a hell of a singsong for a couple of hours.  I think I ended up another couple of shades darker.

The sky is getting cloudier and the breeze is kicking up.  I head to my room, shower, change clothes, etc and walk into town.  I didn't have to worry about the heat because of the cloud cover and the breeze.  I go to mid-town and pick up a few more pesos. I'm hungry, and I've been advised to try one of the hamburger stands so I pick the one closest to town square.  There's some Americans already there, so I ask their advice and the cost.  They tell me to get everything on it and the cost is....45 Pesos.  What??? $2.20 for a huge burger?  This thing had onions, tomatoes, avocados, huahaca cheese and American cheese, a slice of ham and a good sized beef patty, along with a squirt of ketchup, mustard and mayo.  The bun is seared along with the beef, and the cheese is loaded up on the ham to allow it to melt.

A kind stranger took my picture with these burger masters, and I was most appreciative.  Biting into that thing was totally awesome and delicious.  Ok...I know you've been warned not to eat street vendor food.  But I'm a firm believer in trying the things around you to truly get the flavor of where you are and the people you meet. Does this get me into the occasional gastro-intestinal trouble?  Yes, but more often than not, I'm just fine, and I ate something truly great.  This was one of those times.  And no...I didn't suffer any issues at all!

I headed to see my pal Arturo and drown my sorrows at his bar, but it was packed to the gills!  I did not stay long because I really didn't want to have to fight for a place and it was just too loud.  I did find out though that they offer that Avocado, tomato, goat cheese stack all the time, so I'll definitely be back to get that again.

I decide to pick up some agave nectar so I can make my own margaritas, since I have tons of tequila to drink although I will not defile the Don Julio 70 with that.  And I head back home.  Since it's starting to sprinkle, I take a taxi back, Taxi #101 specifically...driven by Armando.  He remembered R and K and wondered where they were.  I told him that they went home.  We passed the Carnival and talked about the rides and he asked me if I wanted to go.  How old is this kid?  He's 35.  I laugh and tell him that it wouldn't be a good idea, I'm 52 and a little too old for him. Then he tells me he likes older women and that his "Esposa" is 40.  Your spouse is 40???  Yeah, this isn't going well and that is NOT going to happen!!!

I get dropped off and head to the room.  I order a snack of yellow fin tuna sashimi, break out the candles on the deck and make a drink. It starts to rain and I bring it inside, but leave the doors open to listen to the sound.  I know that when I wake up in the morning, everything will be fresh and clean.  Ok, maybe a little humid too...we'll see.
